Meet the Co-Chairs

    David Edinger is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation, Construction, Insurance and Workplace Law Groups at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. He is also chair of the firm’s Conflict Committee, and a Member of the Management Committee. David specializes in uniquely tailored and effective approaches to dispute prevention and resolution, which includes advising on contract and procurement strategy, crafting creative risk management solutions, and resolving matters through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation at all levels of court in British Columbia. His broad range of expertise and experience includes resolving commercial and construction disputes involving owners, sureties, general contractors and consultants in relation to builders lien claims, claims for extras, delay, deficiencies and tendering/RFP issues. Recently, David has focused on assisting procurement and contracting processes on larger construction projects and is particularly knowledgeable with respect to the unique commercial considerations and context of public institutions.

    Seema Lal is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Construction and Infrastructure practice group, and member of the Commercial and Business Litigation practice group at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. Seema is focused on the negotiation and preparation of construction contracts, procurement issues, builders’ liens, disputes; and construction dispute resolution, including claims for extras and delays. She seeks to provide strategic legal advice to assist her clients in making informed and effective legal and business decisions. Through her practice and her involvement in industry associations, she has built up an in-depth understanding of the construction sector and the unique issues facing its stakeholders. She is also experienced in assisting clients with insurance matters and professional liability claims. She is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, an association of lawyers who are distinguished for their skill and experience in the practice or teaching of construction law. Seema regularly provides lectures and seminars, including for the Independent Contractors Association of British Columbia, Buildex, Vancouver Regional Construction Association and Pacific Business & Law Institute. She was also previously an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia for engineering students – Legal Aspects in Engineering Practice.

    Andrew is a Director of Commercial, Contracts and Corporate Legal Services and Senior Legal counsel at the Hatch Group of companies. His focus is predominantly on the negotiation and facilitation of large construction and Infrastructure projects with cross over into other areas such as renewables, mining, energy and technologies. Prior to joining Hatch, Andrew was Senior Legal Counsel at EllisDon and was lead counsel for a number of EllisDon projects and EllisDon consortiums in Canada and internationally. Andrew is particularly versed in unique project delivery models including the growing and evolving TOD, Alliance and P3 delivery models. Andrew has recently been recognized for his commitment and experience in the construction industry by being recognized as On-Site Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in Canadian Construction.

    Mollie Deyong is an Associate in the Construction and Infrastructure Practice Group at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. Mollie has a steadfast interest in infrastructure projects and has specialized in construction and infrastructure since the outset of her legal career. Mollie has honed her skills in respect of drafting and negotiating standard form and bespoke contracts of varying degrees of complexity, including design-build contracts, construction (design-bid-build) contracts, construction management contracts, supply contracts, and professional services contracts. She understands the importance of both high level risk considerations and technical details, and has facility with all manner of contract documents including technical specifications, commercial contract schedules, contractual amendments and change documentation. In addition to providing front-end services, Mollie works with clients both large and small representing their interests in respect of a myriad of construction-related issues. She is a construction industry lawyer with experience in large-scale infrastructure disputes, negotiation, mediation, multi-party litigation, arbitration, procurement matters and resolving legal issues that arise on construction projects in both Ontario and British Columbia. She has experience working with large infrastructure owners, mid-size project owners and developers, contractors, suppliers, consultants and design professionals.

  • Partner, Lawson Lundell LLP, Vancouver, BC

    Mike’s main area of focus is commercial litigation with an emphasis on all types of construction disputes, including delay claims, building defect claims, cost overruns, consultant liability, and surety claims. A particular niche practice area of his is builders’ lien claims. In fact, Mike has been involved in some of the highest profile builders’ lien cases from the BC Court of Appeal, including JVD v. Skookum Creek, West Fraser Mills v. BKB, and Chaston Construction v Henderson Land Holdings. In addition, Mike has considerable experience with commercial and residential real estate disputes including collapsing real estate transactions. His real estate dispute practice includes all types of commercial tenancy disputes including rent arbitrations. Mike also has significant experience in realizations, oppression claims, and the enforcement of foreign judgments. He also has advised various stakeholders, including secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy, as to their rights, remedies and obligations in respect of commercial insolvencies in the construction and real estate industries. He has appeared at all levels of superior courts within the Province of BC and Yukon Territory.

    Claudia is Senior Corporate Counsel with Flatiron, specializing in contract drafting and negotiation, and providing practical, real-time advice to project teams engaged in a variety of project delivery methods including bid-build, construction management, design-build, progressive design-build and P3. Flatiron is a subsidiary of German-based HOCHTIEF, one of the world’s largest international construction service providers.

  • Partner, Jenkins Marzban Logan LLP, Vancouver, BC

    David Volk is a highly experienced construction lawyer. He provides advice and representation at all stages of a project, including contract drafting, tendering, negotiations, mediation, arbitration, and in court. He works with all types of clients in the industry, including owners (private and First Nations), general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers. Much of David’s construction practice involves acting as litigation counsel in large, complex disputes which require strategic planning and close attention to detail. Aside from construction, David is developing a specialization in insurance matters, acting for clients challenging denials of insurance coverage by insurance companies and advising parties on maximizing recovery under insurance policies. David also has as a sizeable administrative law practice, which includes acting as prosecution counsel for professional regulatory bodies.

The registration fee is $845.00 plus GST of $42.25 totalling $887.25 for webinar and in-person attendance. Registration fee covers your attendance at the program and electronic materials. In-person attendance includes a catered lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Early Bird Discount:

Register by February 6th, 2024 and receive a $100 discount on the registration fee ($745.00 plus GST). Discounts cannot be combined.

Group Discount:
